13 years ago while training at a Dog Training facility, I was concerned with the poorly bred German Shepherds I was seeing time and again. Poor temperaments, poor heath, and poor structure were rampant in the German Shepherd Dog. I made the decision to breed this amazing breed to stem the tide of poor breeding and to restore the dog of my youth.
With a focus on temperament and health, we, (my husband Jim and I), set out to find a foundation of Reicherthaus, after five years of searching we found our Addei from old West German Working lines. We then trained, health tested and titled her and have had great successe. Our Great Pyrenees journey began with a wonderful rescue, Bonnie. She was an amazing calm tempered, confident, stoic dog and caused us to seek others who also were touched by this incredible breed of Livestock Guardian. After joining the national club we decided to purchase our foundation of Timberbluffs, Bre, from one of the top kennels in the country. She too went through health testing, training, showing and trialing. We are very happy with the successes we have had with our Great Pyrenees breedings as well. Those two females are now a grandmother and a great grandmother. We breed only to improve on the breed, or at least add to what our forebears have done this far. Always with the standard in mind, we seek pairings that have impeccable temperaments first and foremost, because a dog with a weak temperament cant work, or be a companion. We also want to improve on the dogs we are breeding, because no dog is perfect. Second, we want to make sure our dogs can do the jobs they were created for. So, we test them in those areas. For the German Shepherd that means tracking, obedience and protection work, and also conformation. For our Great Pyrenees that proves a little more difficult, as there arent a lot of tests for their work. However we do do things like Conformation, Carting, Obedience, Rally, Temperament Testing, where we watch to see if there are in any weakness of character. Soon we will be adding livestock to our hobby farm and that will test them further. Out of our Reicherthaus Kennel we are proud of the three litters produced. We have a police K9, Farm guard and therapy dog to abused children, and multiple dogs trained and training in IGP, AKC and UKC performance, and wonderful loyal family companions. Out of our Timberbluffs Kennel we are proud to have produced 4 litters, out of those litters we have produced, Livestock Guardian Dogs, 6 AKC Champions, 2 AKC Grand Champions, 4 UKC Champions, A Service Dog and multiple performance titles, and of course wonderful family companions. We health test all our breeding dogs for the illnesses that are a struggle in their particular breed. We belong to both of our National Clubs as well as local clubs. We participate in AKC, UKC, IGP, events.
We stand behind all our breeding’s and are always here for questions, concerns and advice when needed. I Desiree am a Professional Dog Trainer, so I am just a phone call away, or if close enough a drive, to help with training issues of any kind. We believe that the relationship of Dog Breeder and buyer does not end when you take your puppy home, but continues for the life of the dog or even beyond. Some of our dearest friends started out as puppy buyers.
